PDF Reader Max, All Documents: Privacy Policy

This policy covers the PDF Reader Max Android application published by Pascual Labs on Google Play. Our browser extensions are covered by a separate policy.

1. What stays on your device

None of the following is ever uploaded to us or to anyone else:

• Your documents. Files are opened from your own storage through the Android file picker and stay there. The app does not copy or upload them.
• Page images and scans. Rendered pages and photos taken with the scanner are processed in memory and written only to the file you asked for.
• Text recognition (OCR). Recognition runs entirely offline with a model bundled inside the app. No network calls are made for it.
• Your reading data. Reading position, bookmarks, highlights, notes, ink drawings, collections, tags, the search index and settings live in the app's private storage on the phone.
• Search. Both search inside a document and search across the library are performed locally.
• PDF tools. Merging, splitting, compressing, signing, converting, password protection, all of it happens on the device. Nothing is sent to a server for processing.

2. Translation and dictionary

By default, translation is performed on the phone itself by Google ML Kit. The text of your document does not leave the device. The internet is used once to download the language model for the languages you picked.

You can switch the translator to online Google translation in the Translate tab. It is more accurate and knows more languages. In this mode the text of the page or of the passage you translate is sent to Google Translate, and Google's privacy policy applies to it. The app shows which translator is active, and without internet it falls back to offline translation automatically. The language of short passages may also be checked by Google in this mode.

When you select a word and tap Dictionary (or translate a single word in online mode), that word, and nothing else, is sent to Wiktionary (Wikimedia Foundation) to fetch its meaning. Wikimedia's privacy policy applies to that request.

3. Advertising

The free version shows ads through Google AdMob: a banner in the library, occasional full-screen ads and an ad when the app starts. AdMob may use an advertising identifier and similar technical data as described in Google's policy. We do not send AdMob anything about your documents.

Where the law requires it (the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland), the app asks for your consent through Google's official consent form before requesting personalised ads, and you can change that choice later from the app's settings. The Premium subscription removes ads entirely.

4. Purchases

Payments are handled by Google Play. We never receive or store your card details. The app records only whether a subscription is active, so it can unlock the corresponding features.

5. Permissions the app asks for

• File access, only for the specific files or the folder you pick yourself. The app does not scan your storage on its own and asks for no broad storage permission.
• Camera, only when you use the document scanner. Photos become the PDF you asked for; nothing is uploaded.
• Notifications, for playback controls while a document is read aloud in the background, and for the optional reminder about an unfinished book.
• Internet, used by ads, by purchases, to download translation models, and only when you choose them for online translation and the dictionary.

6. Text-to-speech

Reading aloud uses the speech engine installed in your Android system and chosen by you. The text of the passage is handed to that engine exactly as any read-aloud app does. If you select an engine that synthesises speech over the network, the transfer is governed by that engine's own policy, the app warns you when a network voice is selected.

7. Backup

If Android's system backup is enabled on your phone, your settings and library metadata (bookmarks, notes, reading positions) may be saved to your Google account. Document contents and the extracted text cache are deliberately excluded from that backup. You can also export and import a backup file yourself from the app's settings; that file stays wherever you save it.

8. What we do not do

• We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, browsing history or messages. The app has no accounts and no sign-in.
• We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services.
• We do not host, supply or distribute any documents or books. The app is a tool for files you already have.
• We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with data brokers.

9. Children

PDF Reader Max is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

10. Your rights

All app data lives on your device. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it removes everything the app has saved; your original documents are untouched. If you have a question or a request, write to the address below and we will answer within 30 days.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app's release notes on Google Play.
